Why is my digital video playing back so poorly?

A number of things can contribute to this. 1. High data rate. Try to get the data rate as low as possible on the actual videos. 2. Slow CPU speed. Some codecs like Sorenson rely on heavy compression and need lots of CPU power to play back. 3. Too many updates from Director - Try puppeting the tempo to 1 FPS while the video plays to reduce the number of times Director is trying to update the screen.
